Sylvia Hawthorn-Deppen is a licensed practical nurse passionate about helping others live comfortably despite illness. An active member of Chronic Pain Anonymous, she also volunteers as a speaker and peer support in behavioral health at a hospital in Camp Hill, Pa. Hawthorn-Deppen, after abusing pain pills for years to numb her pain, credits the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous with reinforcing her recovery. She enjoys riding her bicycle in her spare time and dreams of cycling cross-country from Pennsylvania to Florida one day.
